Sociology in the third BLS LLB semester runs in two patterns, and the useful thing to know is how little separates them. Paper code 68112 is 60 marks in two hours. Code 66832 is 75 marks in two and a half. In every paper of both patterns the first three sections are worth exactly 12 marks each: short answers at 2 marks, short notes at 6, and situational questions at 6. Only the last section differs, and it differs in arithmetic rather than in kind: the 60 mark paper ends with two long answers of 12 marks, the 75 mark paper with three of 13. Thirty six of the marks are the same paper. Older papers look different again. Up to 2019-20 this was code 68102, 100 marks in three hours, with short notes at 5 marks and four long answers of 12.

The third section is where results are decided, and it is far less unpredictable than it looks, because the University reuses its stems. Across the fifteen papers solved here, the scenario that opens "Caste System in India is a very close system in which members of one caste can not change their caste" is set in four separate papers. "India is becoming a destination of mob lynching" is set in three, and so is "Gender bias is seen even in the literate society". Six more come round twice each: the stem about religious communities not flowing into the national mainstream, women playing multiple roles while gender differences continue, the war between Russia and Ukraine, the woman repeatedly asked out by a male colleague after refusing, the news report that judges an accused before his trial, and food and agriculture at the heart of our civilisations. Prepare those nine and you have already met a large part of the situational section in most sittings.

The other half of that section is minted fresh from the news, and it dates each paper unmistakably. The February 2023 paper opens with the declaration that match fees for women cricketers would be the same as for men. The January 2019 paper is built entirely out of the previous fifteen months: the #MeToo hashtag, the Sabarimala temple litigation, and the Supreme Court striking down Section 497 of the Indian Penal Code. The April 2025 ATKT paper asks about a Netflix series on how social media and cultural misogyny shape children. The April 2026 ATKT paper opens with a war it describes as going on for the last twelve days. Read a year of headlines before this examination and expect to be asked to put a sociological name to one of them.

The long answer section rests on six topics and they barely move. Social change and its theories are set in thirteen of the fifteen papers, social control in eleven, and caste, marriage, religion and social stratification in ten each. Whether sociology is a science, together with the scope and the methods of the subject, is set in seven. Those seven prepared properly will cover the choice in almost every sitting, and they are worth doing first.

One paper is different enough to be worth a warning. The 2023-24 ATKT 75:25 paper, code 66832, held on 18 April 2024, is the only paper in this folder that treats social research as examinable content, and it does so three times over: the questionnaire method for 2 marks, the diagnostic and explanatory types of research together with the empirical method as a 6 mark situational question, and the interview technique with its advantages and limitations for 13. Nowhere else in the subject do the methods appear on their own, only inside the general question about whether sociology is a science.

Three facts about the papers themselves will save you time. The file dated 2017-18 is not one paper but three, each a complete 100 mark paper in its own right: subject code 68102 first, then Q.P. Code 27575, then Q.P. Code 27577 marked ATKT May 2018 in hand. They are numbered continuously from 1 to 75 here, and the front matter of that volume says where each one begins and what to subtract. The 2024-25 regular paper and the 2024-25 ATKT 75:25 paper are the same paper, byte for byte: its own header reads Regular / ATKT, so solving one is solving both. And the first question of the 2022-23 paper carries a tenth item, "Define society", which is written in pen on the scan rather than printed. It is answered here and flagged, so that nobody mistakes it for the printed text.
