How to hand it in
The Department of Law, University of Mumbai, sets these rules in its Semester 4 submission notice. The rules below are from its notice of 1 July 2026. Your year's notice gives the room and the dates.
- Submit at the Department of Law office on the date in the notice, not to your guide.
- Two printed copies of the dissertation and two of the project.
- A pen drive with the soft copies, stuck inside the last cover page of the dissertation and of the project. Write your name, group and year on the pen drive with a marker.
- A plagiarism check report, put in the appendix at the end of both the dissertation and the project. Plagiarism must be below 10%. MU uses Turnitin for the check.
- Sign the declaration, statement and preface. Sign the office attendance sheet with your mobile number, and note your seat number from it.
- The viva dates are in the notice. The full viva timetable is put on the University's website.
Format of the dissertation
- A4 paper. Printing on both sides is allowed.
- Margins: left 2 inches for binding; right, top and bottom 1 inch.
- Times New Roman or Calibri. Text 12 point, sub-headings 14, headings 16. Line spacing 1.5.
- Page number at the bottom right of each page.
- Hard black cover, with the title, your name, your guide's name, your group, and the month and year of submission in golden letters.
- Do not print the University logo on any page.
The project follows the same format, but needs no hard cover: stapled or spiral binding is enough.
What the dissertation and the project must contain
- Both must have: an introduction; aims and objectives; the scope of the study; a review of literature; the sources of information; the research methodology, with the research problem and research questions; and the plan of chapters.
- The notice gives a plan of seven chapters for each. Chapter I is the Introduction and Chapter VII the Conclusion and Suggestions. In the project, Chapter VI is the Analysis of data with findings.
- Marks are given for what the chapters say, for proving your hypothesis, and for your recommendations.
- The work must be your own. Using AI tools such as ChatGPT to write it is not allowed.
- Give footnotes throughout and cite in APA style. End with a bibliography and a webliography, each in alphabetical order.
