Master of Law (LL.M.) Semester 4 Syllabus - Mumbai University 2026

Why there is no Semester 4 syllabus

There is no syllabus for Semester 4, and there is not meant to be one. The LL.M. finishes teaching at the end of Semester 3. Four Foundation papers are sat in Semesters 1 and 2, the six papers of your optional group run across Semesters 1 to 3, and that is the whole of the taught degree. Semester 4 is your own written work.

This is set by R.4360 of the University's ordinances. Semester 4 carries 200 marks and 8 credits, and none of it is an examination on a paper.

Dissertation and viva

80 marks for the dissertation and 20 for the viva and presentation. 100 marks, 4 credits.

Project and presentation

50 marks for the project and 50 for presenting it. 100 marks, 4 credits.

For that second hundred marks the ordinance lets you choose your own topic from the topics listed in the syllabus of your optional group, and requires the work to take an interdisciplinary approach. So your Semester 3 syllabus is where the topics come from even though Semester 4 has none of its own.

Which is why there are no Semester 4 notes anywhere, including here. Notes are written from a module list. Semester 4 has no modules, no paper and no examination to revise for. Anyone offering you Semester 4 notes for the Mumbai University LL.M. is selling you something that does not exist.

Semester 4 is the same for all six optional groups. The only thing that changes between them is the list of topics your dissertation may come from.

Useful instead: your group's Semester 3 syllabus, which carries the topics the ordinance points you at.
