How to use this volume
Solve the paper first, under exam conditions and against the clock. Then read the answers here and mark your own. Reading a solution before attempting the question feels productive and teaches very little, because recognising an answer is not the same as being able to write one.

Answer
The rule: section 10. Under the Indian Christian Marriage Act, 1872, every marriage must be solemnized between six in the morning and seven in the evening.
The three exceptions. The rule does not apply to these marriages.
Why fixed hours. Daylight hours make the marriage public. Anyone with a lawful objection can attend, and secret marriages are discouraged.
The penalty: section 69. Whoever knowingly and wilfully solemnizes a Christian marriage outside these hours commits an offence. The penalty is imprisonment up to three years and fine. The section does not apply to the three exceptions above.
The marriage is not void: section 77. A marriage solemnized under sections 4 and 5 is not void merely because of an irregularity in the time of solemnization. The officiant may be punished, but the couple remain married.
Witnesses. The same section 69 also punishes solemnizing a marriage without two witnesses besides the officiant.
Example. A licensed Minister marries a couple at nine at night. He may be prosecuted under section 69, but the marriage itself remains valid under section 77.
