About this role

This is a test automation job on Zscaler's backend Datapath team, which is the part of the platform that actually moves and inspects customer traffic. That context matters: the systems under test are network security products at global scale, so the testing is system, integration and end to end rather than unit level, and building the test infrastructure and automation framework is the deliverable rather than a side effect. The role also carries a live operations element, proactively monitoring cloud components and debugging cloud incidents, so it is closer to engineering than to scripted QA. At 5 or more years it is one of the more accessible roles here, and it is a genuine route into networking and security infrastructure for people whose depth is in automation.

Who this is for

The employer asks for 5 or more years of relevant experience in test automation. Required: designing, reviewing and executing system, integration and end to end tests for backend datapath components, developing automated functional test cases, and building and maintaining an automation framework using modern tooling to enable automation and scheduling for network security products. Zscaler also asks for a foundational understanding of AI and ML tooling and evidence you use it in your daily workflow.

The day to day: building test infrastructure to suit product needs, interacting with multiple stakeholders and product management to understand customer use cases and upcoming features, proactively monitoring cloud components, troubleshooting and debugging cloud incidents, and mentoring junior engineers.

Location is Bangalore, hybrid with three days a week onsite, reporting to a Manager of Engineering.

Good fit if you are a test automation engineer who wants to work on network and cloud infrastructure rather than application UI, and you are comfortable being on the hook for live cloud incidents. Not a fit if you want feature development: this is a quality engineering seat, and the posting is clear about that.
