About this role
Most infrastructure jobs advertised in India are about running workloads on someone else's cloud. This one is the opposite: Zscaler is building its own OpenStack based private cloud and storage layer inside its data centres, and this role leads that architecture. The named components are the real OpenStack stack, Nova, Neutron, Cinder, Swift and Glance, run at scale with high availability, plus enterprise block, object and file storage built on Ceph and integrated with bare metal. Automation is Terraform, Ansible and GitOps, and observability is Prometheus and Grafana against defined SLOs. It is a rare chance to work on private cloud primitives rather than consume them, and at 5 or more years the experience bar is lower than the scope suggests.
Who this is for
The employer asks for 5 or more years in platform or infrastructure engineering. Required: owning OpenStack architecture and lifecycle across data centre environments, specifically designing, deploying and operating Nova, Neutron, Cinder, Swift and Glance at scale with high availability and operational resilience; architecting enterprise grade block, object and file storage using Ceph and integrating it with OpenStack and bare metal; and automating data centre platform capability with Terraform, Ansible and GitOps workflows. You are also expected to define standards for software defined networking (SDN and OVN), role based access control, multi tenancy, quotas and resource isolation. Zscaler asks additionally for a foundational understanding of AI and ML tooling.
The day to day: driving observability and capacity planning by instrumenting the full stack with Prometheus, Grafana and centralised logging to manage SLOs, track storage utilisation and control cost at data centre scale, enforcing security hardening across tiers, managing access controls, troubleshooting complex production issues and mentoring engineers.
Location is Bangalore, hybrid with three days a week in office, reporting to a Senior Manager of Software Development Engineering in the Zero Trust Exchange department.
Good fit if you have run OpenStack or Ceph in anger and want ownership of the foundation rather than a slice of it. Not a fit if your cloud experience is entirely on managed AWS, Azure or GCP services, because this is the layer underneath that.
