Databricks
About this role
Databricks is building its Networking Infrastructure team from scratch in Bengaluru, and this is a seed role on it. The work is the connectivity layer underneath everything else: backend services that connect the control plane to the compute plane and carry traffic for millions of virtual machines running on the platform. It also powers customer facing enterprise security features, specifically private connectivity to cloud resources and controls that prevent data exfiltration. The stated goal is scaling the compute plane while using cloud resources more efficiently, so this is multi cloud distributed systems work with a networking specialism. Being a founding member of a new site is the real differentiator here, and the posting frames it as a hands on leadership role rather than a purely individual one.
Who this is for
The employer asks for 12 or more years of production level experience in one of Python, Java, Scala, C++ or a similar language, plus 7 or more years developing large scale distributed systems from scratch. Required: experience working on a SaaS platform or with service oriented architectures, and extensive experience in the networking domain specifically.
The day to day: building new backend connectivity services that power millions of virtual machines running on Databricks; leading the design and development of new services connecting the control plane and the compute plane; and working across product management, operations and other engineering teams to deliver networking systems. As one of the seed members of the Bangalore site, you would help establish the team rather than join an existing one.
Location is Bengaluru. The posting does not state office days.
Good fit if you have genuine networking depth alongside distributed systems experience and want the influence that comes with being early to a new site. Not a fit if your background is application backend without networking: the posting asks for extensive domain experience there, and this is the layer where multi cloud connectivity problems actually live.
