The AIBE Registration Form, Step by Step

Registration for AIBE XXII is open. It closes on 27 October 2026 and the exam is on 29 November 2026.

Two things go wrong before most people have typed anything. Both are on this page first, because both are hard to undo.

The two traps, before you start

1. The mobile number you enter cannot be changed later

This is not our warning. It is printed on the portal's own account creation page:

Important: Your mobile number entered during registration will be used throughout the portal and cannot be changed later.

We read that line on 23 September 2026. So use your own number, on a phone you will still be carrying in January 2027, when the AIBE XXII result is expected. Not a friend's phone. Not the college office. Not a SIM you are about to let lapse. Every message this portal sends you about this exam goes to that number, and the portal tells you up front that it will not move it.

The form also has a separate Alternate Mobile Number field, and that one is not marked as mandatory. If you have a second number, put it there. It costs nothing and it is the only backup the form offers you.

2. You do not register on the site where you found the exam

There are two websites and they do different jobs.

• allindiabarexamination.com is the information site. Notices, examination guidelines, the syllabus, answer keys, result press releases.
• aibe.digivarsity.online is where the form actually is. The sign in page is aibe.digivarsity.online/WebApp/Forms/Authentication.aspx, and the information site links to it.

People get stuck here for a plain reason: the two sites are not in step. On 23 September 2026 the information site still headlined AIBE XXI, the exam that was already sat on 7 June 2026, while the registration portal had AIBE XXII open and running. If you judge by the front page of the site you landed on, you can conclude that registration has not started. It has.

The AIBE XXII dates

These are the portal's own words, on its home page, and the same table appears in the Bar Council's press release of 18 July 2026:

Two of those dates are quietly useful. Payment closes a day after registration closes, so a form submitted on 27 October still has a day of payment left. And there is a correction window that ends on 30 October, which is the only editing chance the schedule gives you.

The form has seven steps

The application is a seven step flow, in this order:

3. Educational Details
4. Examination
5. Attachment
6. Declaration
7. Payment

The personal details block is the long one. It carries the disability questions, the government ID and the two questions that decide what kind of candidate the portal thinks you are. The uploads have a step of their own, called Attachment, and one of them comes with a stated consequence. Payment is last, which means the form is filled in before you find out what it costs.

What the Personal Details step asks

These are the fields, in the form's own order. A star means the form marks it mandatory.

Keep the three documents that these fields have to agree with on the desk before you open the form: your government ID, your category certificate if you have one, and your marksheets. The portal asks for a Government ID Proof Number, and that number has to match the ID you will carry on exam day.

Five of those fields are the accessibility block: the disability question, the PWD category, the percentage, the scribe question and the mode of examination. They are answered here, at registration, and not on exam day. If any of them apply to you, read scribes, extra time and accessibility at the AIBE before you pick, because one of the options closes a door behind you.

The two questions that decide what kind of candidate you are

Two fields on this step do more work than the rest put together. One asks whether you have sat the exam before. The other asks whether you hold an enrolment certificate.

Candidate Type: Fresh or Repeat

The form asks for a Candidate Type and offers two values, Fresh and Repeat. That is the whole field. It is asking whether this is your first AIBE or whether you have sat it before.

It matters more than it looks, because of what the Bar Council has said about attempts. Its own resolutions of 12 April 2013 and 31 January 2017 record that a provisionally enrolled person:

can continue to take the Bar Examination as many times as possible

Attempts are not capped. A Repeat candidate is filling in the same form as everybody else. The same resolutions say the right to practise under a provisional enrolment runs for two years, which is a separate clock and a separate question.

The question for candidates with no enrolment certificate

This is the last field on the personal details block and the one that confuses most people:

Are you a candidate without enrolment Certificate or in the final semester of final year of a 3-year LLB or 5-year integrated LLB degree course(s)?

Saying yes to that is not a problem. It is now the normal route. The clarification standing on the official exam site reads:

Only LL.B students (3 year or 5 year) who have passed out of BCI recognised Universities or approved Colleges, (who may or may not have procured their degrees and may or may not have been enrolled or having once been enrolled had surrendered their enrolment), and/ or who are final year, final semester LL.B students, without any backlogs, are eligible to apply for AIBE.

The change came through a notification of 27 September 2025, made to implement Supreme Court directions. It requires that a final semester candidate has no backlogs from previous semesters.

How common is this route? In AIBE XXI, the Bar Council's result tables count "Undertaking Candidates" as an enrolment category of their own: 95,962 of 1,75,701 candidates, about 55 per cent of everybody who sat. The majority of that hall had no enrolment certificate.

There is a condition attached, and it is the one to write down. The undertaking itself says:

I understand that if I pass AIBE, I will be eligible for enrolment for six months. After this period, I will need to reappear for AIBE to continue practicing law.

Six months, from the same notification of 27 September 2025. Do not confuse it with the two year practice window under a provisional enrolment. They are different rules for different people. As a separate matter, a site notice of 7 July 2026 set 6 January 2027 as the current deadline for undertaking candidates to file their enrolment certificate.

The uploads, and the one that carries a warning

Your photo and your signature upload on the personal details step. Seven documents are required as well, and the form gives the uploads a step of their own called Attachment. The specifications are exact, they are written on no Bar Council page, and one of the seven documents carries a warning on the form saying that getting it wrong may lead to your result being withheld.

The short version: photo 150 by 200 pixels, signature 150 by 100 pixels, document files only in .Jpeg, .Jpg or .pdf and none over 600KB. The full version, including the seven documents and the warning, is in the AIBE upload specifications.

The fee, and why we will not print one number

The fee is on no page of either site. The portal's own "Payment of Fees" tab is a dead link, so there is nothing to check a figure against.

It is, however, visible in the Bar Council's own walkthrough video of the form. Its Confirm Payment screen shows:

Look at the second line. That screen is AIBE XX, the exam of 30 November 2025. Rs 2,500 is evidenced for AIBE XX. It is not confirmed for AIBE XXII. It is the best number anyone has, and it is a number from the previous exam but one. Budget for it, expect the portal to be the authority, and treat anyone publishing a flat current fee with suspicion, because there is no published page for them to have got it from.

What we cannot tell you

We can tell you what the form asks. We cannot tell you what to do when the form misbehaves, and we are not going to invent it.

If your payment is debited and the form still says unpaid, if an upload is refused without a reason, or if your admit card will not generate, there is no published Bar Council procedure that we found for any of those. What the portal offers is a Grievance Redressal link and a help desk number on its home page. That is the route it gives you, and that is all we will claim about it.

The one thing the schedule does give you is the correction window, which closes on 30 October 2026. If you spot a mistake in what you typed, that is your date.

Where these facts come from

We read the frames. We did not create an account and we typed nothing into the portal, because account creation needs a mobile OTP, an email OTP and a password. Everything above is either on a public page or in the Bar Council's own video.

We are not the Bar Council and we do not process registrations. If the portal and this page ever disagree, the portal wins, and we would like to know so we can fix this one.

What to do next

Fill the form before 27 October 2026 and pay before 28 October. Check it once more before 30 October, because that is when corrections stop. The admit card goes live on 14 November, and the paper is on 29 November.

Then the exam is the only thing left, and it is closer than the registration deadline makes it feel: about four weeks from the day corrections close. It is an open book paper, which is a smaller advantage than it sounds, and the way to find that out is to sit one.
