- Unit I: Introduction to Transport Management
- Meaning and definition of transport, Scope and objectives of transport management.
- Importance of transport in business and economic development, Role of transport in logistics and supply chain management.
- Unit II: Modes of Transport
- Road Transport – features, advantages, limitations & role in Indian economy, Rail Transport – features, advantages, limitations & role in Indian economy, Water Transport – inland and ocean transport, features, advantages, limitations & role in Indian economy.
- Air Transport – features, advantages, limitations & role in Indian economy, Pipeline and multimodal transport, Comparative analysis of transport modes.
Module II: Transport Management - Applications (15)
- Unit I: Transport Costing, Pricing and Documentation
- Elements of transport cost, Factors influencing transport rates, Freight rate fixation and pricing policies.
- Basic transport documents: Lorry Receipt (LR), Goods Receipt (GR), Consignment Note.
- Unit II: Transport Regulation, Logistics and Sustainability
- Need for transport regulation, Motor Vehicles Act – overview, Transport authorities and government initiatives in India.
- Role of transport in logistics and supply chain, Transport efficiency, service quality, and sustainability, Green transport and emerging digital trends (GPS, e- transport).
