BSc Forensic Science Forensic Science and Chemical Science Practical Syllabus - Mumbai University 2026

This degree runs on the Choice Based Credit System throughout, items 6.10, 6.11 and 6.12 of the Academic Council of 17 May 2022, brought in one year at a time from 2022-23. The University has published no NEP 2020 syllabus for it. The University examines only the third year of this degree centrally, under exam forms 1S00815 and 1S00816; the colleges examine the first four semesters.

Forensic Science Practical

  • 1 To identify blood stains patterns
  • 2 To determine angle of impact and directionality of blood stains.
  • 3 To study types of blood stain pattern on various surface
  • 4 To study the working and operation of VSC
  • 5 To study the working and operation of ESDA
  • 6 To study the working and operation of Comparison and Stereomicroscope
  • 7 To study the working and operation of various Spectrophotometric methods: UV-VIS, IR/FTIR, Raman, AAS, AES, Mass Spectrometers, ICP
  • 8 To study the working and operation of various Chromatographic techniques: TLC, HPTLC, HPLC/UPLC, GC

Chemical Science Practical

  • 1 Introduction to Forensic Chemistry lab apparatus and instruments, Laboratory safety rules, MSDS.
  • 2 Identification of commonly used organic solvents/ acids/ bases by physicochemical properties (smell, density, pH, refractive index, viscosity, boiling point, etc.)
  • 3 To determine the relative viscosity of given liquid by using Ostwald's Viscometer.
  • 4 To determine surface tension of the given liquid by using stalagnometer.
  • 5 Analysis of single organic compound
  • 6 To determine the strength of the given acid conductometrically using standard alkali solution.
  • 7 To determine strength of given acid/base.
  • 8 To determine the density of given alcoholic liquid.
  • 9 To standardize KMnO 4 solution and find strength of the given oxalic acid solution.
  • 10 Industry/Laboratory Visit
