The University examines this degree under exam form 4945361 and spells it both "Bachelor of Performing Arts (Music-Hindustani Tabla)", in her Summer 2026 timetables, and "B.P.A. Syllabus for History of Music
The University’s title page for Semesters V and VI heads them "U.G. Second Year Programme". Her own credit structure two pages later levels the same two semesters "5.5 TYBPA" under the heading "Semester V and VI", and item 8.17 (R) calls the programme "U.G. Three Year Programme" while covering Semesters I to IV. They are the third year.
Course Objectives
- To provide Classification instrument in different categories.
- To gain insights into the factors that shaped Music, its creation, performance, and reception.
- To trace the evolution of Tabla playing styles, genres, and forms over time.
- To study the contribution of experts in the field of tabla.
- To study the types of Lay.
Course Outcomes
By the end of the module students will:
- Knowledge of classification of Instruments.
- To understand the contribution of artistes of past and present era.
- Knowledge of the pioneer Gharana of Tabla.
- Knowledge of Lay and it’s main different type
Module 1: History of Tabla
- Historical percussion instruments.
- Development and history of current Talaas.
- Ancient percussion instruments of Vedic period and its evolution.
Module 2: History of Instruments
- Detail study of avnaddh wadya mentioned in Natyshatra and sangeet Ratnakar.
- Explain Membrane and Non membrane percussion instrument in Indian Music.
Module 3: Introduction to Baaj , Gharana and Biography
- History and characteristics of Pujab Gharana and Banaras Gharana
