B.F.A. (Textile Design) First Year BFA Textile Design Syllabus - Mumbai University

This is the University of Mumbai syllabus for B.F.A. (Textile Design), Circular No. UG/210 of 2004 dated 28 May 2004 (Ordinances 5331 to 5337, Regulations 4569 to 4591), in force from the academic year 2004-2005. Its Final Year ordinance, O.5336, was re-issued by Circular No. UG/353 of 2008; no circular has changed a subject of this branch. It is still the scheme examined: the University set the Summer 2026 papers on it, and has published no later B.F.A. syllabus. The First Year B.F.A. examination is conducted by the college recognised by the University of Mumbai, not by the University itself.

The B.F.A. (Textile Design) runs over four academic years and is not divided into semesters. The University of Mumbai conducts the Second Year and Final Year examinations itself; the First Year and Third Year examinations are conducted by the college recognised by the University.

Each year is taught in two groups — Group I (Theory) and Group II (Practicals) — and almost every examined subject is marked out of 100, 40 for class work and 60 for the examination. Some subjects are taught and not examined; the syllabus marks those, and so does every page here.

In both of the years the University examines, it sets two written papers — History of Art and Technique — alongside the practicals. In the Final Year it also sets a Viva-Voce, marked out of 40, and Project work on the selected subject, marked out of 60; the two together carry 100 marks in the University's own table.

The First Year B.F.A. examination is conducted by the college recognised by the University of Mumbai, not by the University itself.

MU’s First Year Education Pattern table says the assignments are "to be completed during the final academic year". It is the First Year’s table - its own banner reads (B.F.A. TEXTILE DESIGN FIRST YEAR) and its twelve subjects are the First Year’s. The word "final" is a copy-paste from the Final Year’s table. MU also prints this year’s examination table twice, on folios 3 and 6, and the two disagree on the paper duration of Design - 2D: folio 3 says 5 hours, folio 6 says 10. The syllabus block on folio 9 says 5, and 5 is what is published.

The University prescribes 12 subjects for this year and sets papers in 8 of them. The rest are taught and assessed as class work; each is marked below.
