Syllabus for Co-operation Principles and Practices

Module 1: Introduction to Cooperation

  • Meaning, nature, principles, and philosophy of cooperation -Evolution of the cooperative movement in India and abroad-Rochdale Pioneers- International Cooperative Alliance (ICA)-International Co- operative Principles (ICA Principles 1995) - Cooperative movement in pre-independence & post- independence India.

Module 2: Types of Cooperative Institutions

  • -Agricultural credit cooperatives, Marketing and processing cooperatives, Dairy cooperatives, Housing cooperatives, Urban and labour Cooperatives.

Module 3: New Emerging Forms of Corporation,

  • New emerging forms: FPOs (Farmer Producer Organisations), Digital cooperatives and platform cooperatives, Worker cooperatives, producer companies Agri-tech, dairy-tech and cooperative start-ups, Youth participation and skill development in the cooperative sector- Success stories: AMUL, IFFCO, KRIBHCO.

Module 4: Contemporary Issues and Challenges

  • Political interference and leadership issues, financial weaknesses and NPA problems, Lack of professionalism, regional imbalance and structural weaknesses, Impact of Globalisation and market competition.
  • Reforms: Professionalization and digital governance, Cooperative banking reforms, Business diversification and integration, Strengthening FPOs and SHGs, Use of ICT, blockchain, GIS & MIS in cooperatives.
