Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) Semester 1 Syllabus - Mumbai University 2026
Your syllabus for Semester 1
In first year you study three subjects: pick them below. Each gives one 4-credit paper. You also take one vocational skill course (VSC) and one skill enhancement course (SEC), and the courses for every B.A. student. Together they make the semester's 22 credits.
Subjects
Not on munotes yet for Semester 1: Marathi, Hindi, Geography, Gujarati, Urdu, Sindhi, Pali, Persian, Arabic, Islamic Studies. If you study one of these, ask your college for its syllabus. Open Electives (OE), the courses some colleges run from outside your subjects, are not on munotes yet either.
Practise with the Semester 1 past papers. Papers in the subject folders were set on this syllabus. The year folders hold older papers, so check each topic against this one.
Pick your subjects above to see their syllabus.
Major
One 4-credit paper per subject. The University's own first-year timetable sets only the 4-credit papers; ask your college before studying a 2-credit one.

Skill courses
You take one vocational skill course (VSC) and one skill enhancement course (SEC), as your college decides.
A B.A. student is admitted to the degree, not to a single subject, and carries three subjects in the first year, two in the second and one Major with one Minor in the third. So each semester lists every subject taught in it, and you open your own. Common Papers holds the courses every B.A. student takes whatever their subjects: a language course, Environmental Management, Indian Knowledge System and a co-curricular course such as NSS or Sports. Your college decides which of them it offers.
