Syllabus for Practical Filmmaking
Course objectives
- Understand the process of conceptualizing, scripting, and producing effective ad films for various platforms.
- Gain hands-on experience in pre-production, production, and post-production specific to advertising film formats.
- Learn the fundamentals of visual storytelling, camera work, lighting, and sound as applied to ad filmmaking.
Course outcomes
- Write and develop a complete advertising film concept, including creative brief, script, storyboard, and production plan.
- Produce ad films (30 sec. to 3 min.) demonstrating technical skills in directing, cinematography, sound, and lighting.
- Operate film production equipment effectively to achieve professional-quality visuals and audio in ad films.
Module 1: Pre-Production & Creative Development 10 hours
- 1. Introduction to advertising & ad films: Formats and platforms
- 2. Understanding the brief: How to write and interpret a creative brief
- 3. Ideation & concept development: Brainstorming ad film ideas
Module 2: Production Techniques & Visual Storytelling 10 hours
- 1. Basics of cinematography for ad films: Composition, framing, camera movement
- 2. Working with actors and locations: Casting, blocking, rehearsals
- 3. Shooting project: Students shoot a 30-50 second ad film in groups
Module 3: Post-Production & Promotion 10 hours
- Introduction to editing ad films: Software tools & techniques
- Editing workshop: Cutting footage, adding music, sound design
- Post-production finishing: Color correction, graphics, subtitles
- Overview of promoting ad films: Social media, PR, media buying
Module 4: Final Project
- Make two ad films of different duration i.e. 30-50 SEC. AND 3 MINUTE
