How to use this volume
Solve the paper first, under exam conditions and against the clock. Then read the answers here and mark your own. Reading a solution before attempting the question feels productive and teaches very little, because recognising an answer is not the same as being able to write one.
PART I Q1 Choose the correct option in the following questions 50 Marks
Answer
Answer: (ii) Sent. "He sent an email to Nina."
Why: The sentence reports a finished action, so it needs the simple past tense. The past tense of "send" is "sent".
Why the others are wrong: "Has send", "had send" and "will have send" all join a helping verb to the base form "send". A perfect tense needs the past participle, "sent": "has sent", "had sent", "will have sent". As printed, all three are ungrammatical.
