The University does not publish an official answer key for this paper. The answers in this volume are model answers, written to show how a full-mark answer is built. They are a study aid, not an authority on what an examiner marked.
The question paper reproduced here is the paper as set by the University of Mumbai at the Oct 2025 examination.
The questions below are the paper as the University of Mumbai set it at the Oct 2025 examination, in the order it was set.

How to use this volume
Solve the paper first, under exam conditions and against the clock. Then read the answers here and mark your own. Reading a solution before attempting the question feels productive and teaches very little, because recognising an answer is not the same as being able to write one.

Answer
For full marks, cover: the definition (a type defined by its values and operations, not its implementation), the idea of abstraction and encapsulation, an example ADT (Stack) with its operations, how one ADT can have several implementations, and the advantages.
An Abstract Data Type (ADT) is a logical description of a data type. It says what values the type holds and what operations can be done on them, but not how those operations are carried out. The "how", called the implementation, is hidden from the user.
So an ADT separates two views.
This hiding is called abstraction, and keeping the data and its operations together is called encapsulation.
A stack holds a sequence of items, added and removed at one end only (last in, first out). Its operations are:
The user knows only these operations. The stack may be implemented using a Python list (array) or a linked list. Either way the user's program does not change.
List, Queue, Deque, Priority Queue, Tree, Graph and Hash Table (Map) are all ADTs. A user-specific ADT, such as a Bank Account with deposit and withdraw operations, can be created in Python as a class.
Conclusion. An ADT defines a data type by its values and operations while hiding how it is stored. The Stack ADT, with push, pop and peek, works the same on an array or a linked list. That is what makes ADTs simple, safe and reusable.
