Nature and scope of Environmental Economics – Economy–environment relationship – Concepts of sustainable development – Environmental values: use value, non-use value – Market failure and environment – Externalities: types and implications – Tragedy of commons – Property rights and Coase theorem (basic understanding).
Module 2: Environmental Degradation and Economic Growth (15 Hours)

Population, poverty, and environmental degradation – Industrialization and urbanization – Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) – Natural resource economics: renewable and non-renewable resources – Resource depletion and conservation – Climate change: economic causes and impacts – Role of technology in environmental protection.
Module 3: Environmental Policy and Economic Instruments (15 Hours)

Environmental policy objectives – Command and control instruments – Market-based instruments: taxes, subsidies, tradable permits – Cost–benefit analysis and environmental decision-making – Environmental impact assessment (EIA) – Role of government, market, and institutions in environmental management.
Module 4: Environment, Development and Contemporary Issues (15 Hours)

Environment and development debate – Sustainable development goals (SDGs) and environment – Environmental laws and policies in India – Role of international agreements: Kyoto Protocol, Paris Agreement – Green economy and circular economy – Contemporary environmental issues: air and water pollution, waste management, biodiversity loss.
