Bachelor of Performing Arts (Music - Hindustani Tabla) Method of Improvisation Syllabus - Mumbai University

This is the NEP 2020 syllabus for B.P.A. (Music - Hindustani Tabla), in force from the academic year 2025-26. Semesters I to IV are set by University circular item 8.17 (R) of 20 May 2025 and Semesters V and VI by item 8.49 (N) of the same date; the Semester III Field Project is set separately, by item 8.1 (N) 1.5(b) of 15 July 2025. The University examines this degree under exam form 4945361 and spells it both "Bachelor of Performing Arts (Music-Hindustani Tabla)", in her Summer 2026 timetables, and "B.P.A. The University’s title page for Semesters V and VI heads them "U.G. Second Year Programme". Her own credit structure two pages later levels the same two semesters "5.5 TYBPA" under the heading "Semester V and VI", and item 8.17 (R) calls the programme "U.G. Three Year Programme" while covering Semesters I to IV. They are the third year.

Course Objectives

  • To understand the improvisation process of Peshkar.
  • To Understand the improvisation process of Kayda,Rela
  • To understand the improvisation process of Chalan,laggi,ladi.
  • To study the contribution of experts in the field of tabla.
  • To study the types of Lay.

Course Outcomes

By the end of the module, students should be able to:

  • Inspire to perform each and every expandable compositions .
  • They should understand & appreciate the facets of Khali-Bhari and improvisation in expandable compositions with fair competency.
  • They should be able to understand & appreciate the facets of Lay and Tala
  • They should able to understand improvisation technique of Expandable composition in Tabla playing.
