BSc Nautical Sciences MECS I Syllabus - Mumbai University 2026

Module I: MARINE ENGINEERING PRACTICE

  • General introduction and scope. Classification of ships as per propulsion plants. General layout of ship’s Engine Rooms and machinery.

Module II: Main Engine Plants and supporting systems

  • Introduction about ship’s Auxiliary Systems. Electrical Power Generation Plants – its supporting systems and importance.

Module III: Bilge, ballast, fire, cargo & other pipelines of

  • different type of ships. Practical Contd.from Semester I Contours, change of sections, hidden (Internal) construction, dotted lines, etc. Discussion on ship’s plans. Isometric views, cut/cross sections. Simple assembly drawings. Engineering drawing by free hand sketching. NOTE: Sufficient time should be allotted for drawing-practice
