BSc Nautical Sciences Syllabus - Mumbai University 2026

This degree runs on the Choice Based Credit System throughout, items 4.69, 4.70 and 4.71 of the Academic Council of 23 July 2020, in force from the academic year 2020-21. The University’s earlier Credit Based Semester and Grading System syllabus is what her older third-year timetables name, so check which scheme your exam form names before you revise.

This is a pre-sea training degree, and the University sets it against the international convention rather than against her own credit rules alone: her preamble requires the course to meet STCW Code 2010 Regulation II/1, Table A-1, covers environmental protection under MARPOL 73/78, and states that the course is residential. Her Regulation R.8406 gives the point of it — a candidate who secures the minimum grade in each course head as described in Training Circular No. 4 of 2005 of the Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India, earns two years of sea-time remission toward the Second Mate (Foreign Going) certificate of competency. The certificate is DG Shipping’s to award, not the University’s.
