Syllabus for Dyeing and Printing and Textile Testing Practical

Module I: Preparatory Processes and Dyeing of Textiles

  • A Preparatory processes for gray fabric: Open width, Rope form, Continuous and Batch Finishing, De-sizing, Scouring, Bleaching, Mercerization
  • B Dyeing: Introduction to dyeing, Principles and Mechanism of dyeing, Methods of dyeing, Auxiliaries used for dyeing
  • C Dyeing machinery: Dyeing fabric in jigger, padding mangle, laundro-meter, etc.)
  • D Natural dye: Preparation of natural dye shade card using natural and synthetic mordants
  • E Identification of dye on various fiber fabrics
  • F Tie-dye techniques: Create 5 samples using various fiber content (jute, nylon, silk, cotton and blends) with suitable dyes (direct, acid, basic, reactive and disperse)
  • G Batik: Creation of batik 2 samples using various fiber content (cotton, silk, blend etc.) using suitable dye (azoic, vat and sulfur)

Module II: Fabric Printing Techniques and Finishing Processes

  • A Methods, styles and auxiliaries used for printing: Printing on different fabric composition using block, screens with various styles like direct, discharge, resist, (using pigment, khadi, etc.)
  • B Printing on fabric using novel methods of printing: Digital, flexography, inkjet, blotch, water mark, roller, foam, bubble, air brush, electrostatic, photo printing, marble, warp printing, differential, marble, air brush etc.
  • C Identification of printed fabrics
  • D Evaluation of fastness properties of dyed and printed textile material
  • E Finishing and application of any 4 basic finishes: Aims of finishing, Classification of finishes (physical and chemical), Recent developments
