Syllabus for Developmentally- Appropriate Practices in Educational
Module I: Workshop Training, Classroom Observation, and Lesson
- Planning
- 1 Input & Workshop Sessions
- Students will attend and participate in interactive workshops conducted by faculty/M.Sc. students on planning and conducting developmentally appropriate activities in the following areas:
- i Fine-motor and Gross-motor Activities
- ii Art and Craft Activities
- iii Music and Movement
- iv Language Activities
- v Science and Math Activities
- vi Social Studies Activities
- vii Socio-dramatic Play
- viii Lesson planning
- ix Transition Activities
- x Classroom Arrangement and Enrichment
- xi Classroom Management
- 2 Observation & Lesson Planning
- Students will be placed in a preschool setting and will:
- i Observe classroom sessions (Teaching methods, Teacher-child interaction, Classroom arrangement, Use of learning centres, Transitions)
- ii Maintain Observation Records and Evaluation Reports
- iii Lesson Planning (Brainstorming and group discussions, Writing detailed lesson plans, developmentally and age-appropriate strategies and activities on the given topic)
- iv Preparation of Teaching Aids
- v Mock Lessons (Peer Teaching)
Module II: Lesson Implementation, Evaluation, and Reflective Practices
- 1 Execution of Lessons and Activities in a Preschool Setup
- i Conducting developmentally appropriate activities on the given topic as per the lesson plan
- ii Ensuring smooth Classroom Processes - Transition activities, introduction, main lesson delivery and recap.
- 2 Evaluation & Reflection
- i Conducting self-evaluation after each activity.
- ii Reflecting on Achievement of objectives, Child participation, Classroom management, Time management, Suitability of teaching aids, learnings from challenges faced and recording the same.
- iii Obtaining feedback from supervising teacher/faculty.
- iv Maintaining a practicum file including Observation records, Lesson plans, Teaching aids (photographic/documentation), Self-evaluation sheets, Supervisor and faculty feedback.
