B.F.A. (Sculpture) First Year BFA Sculpture Syllabus - Mumbai University 2026

This is the University of Mumbai syllabus for B.F.A. (Sculpture), Circular No. UG/210 of 2004 dated 28 May 2004 (Ordinances 5324 to 5330, Regulations 4545 to 4568), in force from the academic year 2004-2005. Circular No. UG/353 of 2008 amended the Final Year ordinance, O.5329, and changed no subject. It is still the scheme examined: the University set the Summer 2026 papers on it — History of Art (83301) and Aesthetics (83302) in the Second Year, History of Art (83401) in the Final Year — and has published no later B.F.A. syllabus. The First Year B.F.A. examination is conducted by the college recognised by the University of Mumbai, not by the University itself.

The B.F.A. (Sculpture) runs over four academic years and is not divided into semesters. The University of Mumbai conducts the Second Year and Final Year examinations itself; the First Year and Third Year examinations are conducted by the college recognised by the University.

Each year is taught in two groups — Group I (Theory) and Group II (Practicals). A theory paper is marked out of 100, 40 for class work and 60 for the examination. In the First Year the practicals are marked the same way; from the Second Year on they are marked out of 150, 60 for class work and 90 for the examination. Every year carries 960 taught hours, and in every year some subjects are taught and not examined; the syllabus marks those, and so does every page here.

The Final Year is the only year with a written paper that is not a taught subject in the usual sense: alongside History of Art the student submits a Dissertation, marked 60, and sits a Viva-Voce, marked 40. MU counts the two together as one 100-mark row of her scheme of papers.

The First Year B.F.A. examination is conducted by the college recognised by the University of Mumbai, not by the University itself.

The University prescribes 12 subjects for this year and sets papers in 8 of them. The rest are taught and assessed as class work; each is marked below.
