B.F.A. (Painting) Aesthetics Syllabus - Mumbai University

This is the University of Mumbai syllabus for the B.F.A. (Painting), the Revised Course in force from the academic year 2004-2005. It is still the current scheme: MU has never revised it, the University's own Faculty of Fine Art register still lists this degree as Ordinance O.5310 under Circular No. UG/210 of 2004, and the syllabus below is what MU's Summer 2026 examinations were set on.

  • “Shadangs” from vishnudharmottarapurana, six cannons of Chinese painting, Comparison of both. Classification of Painting and vartans.
  • Portion regarding “Visual Arts” from Abhilashitarthachinta – Amani “Sthapati” and his essential qualities and portion regarding “Ranga Chitra” from Samaranganasutradhara.
  • Outlines of school of Aesthetics – “Alankar” Dhewani “Rasa” “Vakrokti” “Reeti” and “Aouchity” Social and psychological aspect of Aesthetics according to Vatsyayan’s “Kamasutra”.

Lectures per Academic Year : 80 Hours; Tutorials per Academic Year : 04. Duration : 3 Hours; Paper : 60 marks; Term Work : 40 marks.
