B.F.A. (Ceramics) Third Year BFA Ceramics Syllabus - Mumbai University
This is the University of Mumbai syllabus for the B.F.A. (Ceramics) degree, revised by Circular No. UG/210 of 2004 and in force from the academic year 2004-2005. It is still the scheme you are examined on: the University set exactly these papers in her Summer 2025 and Summer 2026 timetables, and has published no revision of it.
The Third Year examination is conducted by the college recognised by the University of Mumbai, not by the University itself, so the University publishes no timetable for it.
Objectives of The Course
The course in Ceramics primarily aims at providing facilities for creative exploration of this most basic yet potential medium. The student is basically made to experiment with the plasticity of clay, use of potter’s wheel, various glazes and colours, firing techniques, basic and dynamic shapes and creative concepts in terra-cotta, stone ware, earthern ware, porcelain & referactory.
The course being practice baised and design oriented, the student shall study the rudiments of methods and process involved, know the composition of different clays used, and experience the feel of these clays and their potentialities in evolving various 3-D forms during their study.
In the final year, they shall devote to the search of the possibilities of application of the material media and the process involved, in visualising and realising design concepts of aesthetic and functional values. Survey of market, Cost estimation and various firing techniques, and a project on a selected subject approved by the class teacher.
