This is the University of Mumbai syllabus for the B.F.A. (Applied Art), the Revised Course approved under Item No. 4.30 and in force from the academic year 2004-2005. It is old, and it is current: the University still examines this scheme, and the subjects below are the ones set in its Summer 2026 examinations. It is the only B.F.A. Syllabus for Information and Publishing Design
What the University sets
- Paper: 80. Marks. Duration: 25 Hours
- Assignments per Academic Year: 08 Term Work: 20 Marks
What is taught
- _ Studio Practicals per Academic Year: 240 Hours
- As Applicable to Publishing Design, Information Design with emphasis on the principles of graphic design. » Oo Students should be encouraged to adopt an analytical and creative approach to the communication design problems in the following areas
- Advertising Campaign/Project Work
- Students are expected to select any existing client from the following categories
- a. Product :-Consumer Durable/Daily Consumer
- b. Service : Commercial/Non-Commercial c. Public Welfare : National/International
- 1. Publishing Design: Children's books/Comics. Calendar Design. Utility. Stationary Design. Book Design. Newspaper/Specific Interest Magazine Design
- 2. Information Design: Educational Kits, Timetables, Menu. Cards, Manuals Activity books, Invitation Cards, Informative charts/booklets and directional maps Students at their option may include Graphic Design areas to support a project Corporate Identity programme. Environmental Graphics. Signage system
Term work
Term Work shall consist of at least 08 assignments covering the given syllabus, duly performed, completed and graded, carrying a weightage of 20 marks. Student must gain at least 40% of the total marks allotted for the Term Work of the academic year, in order make him/her eligible to appear for the examination.
