Semester 5 · Third Year BE Chemical

Module 1: Determination of Reaction Kinetics using Experimental Methods printed in the syllabus as Module Detailed Content

  • Concepts of rate law, reaction order and rate constant for homogeneous reactions. Determination of kinetics using integral, differential and initial rate methods from experimental data.

Module 2: Analysis of Concentration and Temperature Data printed in the syllabus as Module Detailed Content

  • Effect of concentration and temperature on reaction rate and rate constant. Analysis of experimental data to estimate activation energy and related kinetic parameters.

Module 3: Experimental Data Interpretation & Kinetic Modeling printed in the syllabus as Module Detailed Content

  • Techniques for processing and interpreting experimental data using basic regression methods. Identification and validation of suitable kinetic models with error analysis.

Module 4: Batch Reactor Operation and Design Analysis printed in the syllabus as Module Detailed Content

  • Principles of batch reactor operation and relation between conversion and time. Evaluation of reactor performance and design aspects using experimental results.

Module 5: Flow Reactors CSTR and PFR Performance Evaluation printed in the syllabus as Module Detailed Content

  • Operational features of CSTR and PFR and concept of space time and conversion. Comparative analysis of reactor performance under identical conditions.

Module 6: Reactor Selection for Homogeneous Reaction Systems printed in the syllabus as Module Detailed Content

  • Criteria for selection of reactors based on reaction kinetics and desired conversion. Comparison of batch and flow reactors with basic introduction to selectivity considerations.
