B.E. (Biomedical Engineering) Basics of Human Anatomy and Physiology Syllabus - Mumbai University 2026

This is the Second Year Biomedical NEP 2020 syllabus under NEP 2020, in force from the academic year 2025-26. Syllabus for Basics of Human Anatomy and Physiology

Semester 3 · Second Year Biomedical NEP 2020 · 3 credits · 100 marks

Module 1: Introduction to Human Body, Cells ,Tissues and Types

  • Homeostasis and its maintenance. Structure and functions of a cell; Tissues: epithelial, connective, muscle and nervous Transport across the plasma membrane: Passive and Active

Module 2: Cardiovascular and Respiratory system

  • Generation of Action Potential, Anatomy of the heart; Heart valves, Systemic and Pulmonary circulation; Conduction system of the heart; Cardiac action potential, Electrocardiogram(ECG); Cardiac cycle; Cardiac output; Blood pressure. Anatomy of respiratory system; Internal and External respiration, Gas laws – Boyle‟s Law, Dalton‟s law and Henry‟s law, Spirometery

Module 3: Blood

  • Composition of Blood, blood cells and their functions, Clotting and factors,BloodGrouping and various blood disorders

Module 4: Digestive System and Renal System

  • Anatomy of the alimentary system; Secretions of different organs of the alimentary system and their main function. Anatomy of the renal system; Functions of kidney and Micturition. BP regulation by renal system.

Module 5: Nervous System

  • Classification of the nervous system, Brain, its parts and functions, spinal cord, Ventricles, Formation and circulation of Cerebrospinal fluid, Reflex action and reflex arc; Monosynapse and Polysynapse, Nerve action potential, Nerve conduction in Myelinated and Non Myelionated neurons.

Module 6: Endocrine System

  • All Glands of the endocrine system, their secretions and functions.
