Syllabus for French Society of the XXIst century

Description of the course
This course explores key aspects of 21st- century French society through themes including but not limited to gastronomy, work culture, environmental concerns, public health, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Through analysis of current events, media, and social discourse, students will gain insights into the evolving values, challenges, and identity of contemporary France.
Course objectives
- 1. To introduce students to major societal trends and issues shaping modern France.
- 2. To analyze how topics such as gastronomy, work, environment, and health reflect broader cultural and political dynamics.
- 3. To develop students’ ability to critically engage with contemporary French media and public discourse.
- 4. To improve language skills through thematic vocabulary, discussion, and written expression related to current societal topics.
Course outcomes
- CO 1 To explore the transformation of gastronomy and food culture in 21st- century France.
- CO 2 To analyze the changing dynamics of work life in contemporary French society.
- CO 3 To understand France's approach to environmental challenges and sustainable development.
