Druva
About this role
An escalations engineering role at Druva, which is a specific and often misunderstood job. You are not on a support desk and you are not on a feature team: you own the hardest production problems, drive them to root cause, and ship the code that fixes them. The posting describes fixing product bugs and delivering code changes to production, owning cloud production issues for investigation and root cause analysis, validating future releases in a staging environment against customer use cases as a gatekeeper for release quality, and partnering with scrum teams and Product Management on design and improvements. It also involves working with Sales, Tech Support, Customer Success and Professional Services on proofs of concept and implementation projects. The stack is Go and Python on Unix, Linux or Windows. 6 to 9 years, Pune.
Who this is for
Required by the posting: 6 to 9 years of experience in a combination of development and sustenance roles. Extensive hands on experience in Go or Python on Unix, Linux or Windows platforms. Excellent programming skills with data structures, algorithms and design concepts. Strong problem solving skills and demonstrated ability to articulate and present technical solutions. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal, with the ability to build working relationships at all levels with both customers and internal stakeholders. Experience in enterprise software with deep knowledge of software development including threading, network and disk IO, data transformations, data integrity, systems management, systems administration and monitoring.
Desirable skills: exposure to Office 365, VMware, Hyper-V, Nutanix, file systems or network attached storage; 6+ years of software development in Python or Golang; experience developing complex, scale out distributed systems based on service oriented architecture or microservices; cloud technologies, preferably AWS; and knowledge of the backup or storage domain.
The real day to day: proposing solutions to complex design problems for the relevant technology or workload; fixing product bugs and delivering code changes to production; working with Sales, Tech Support, Customer Success and Professional Services to assist on proofs of concept and implementation projects; owning and driving cloud production issues through investigation and root cause analysis, delivering a fix and working with extended development teams; validating future releases in a staging environment against customer use cases, acting as a gatekeeper for product release and quality; partnering with scrum teams and Product Management on feature design and product improvements; and ensuring communication flows cross functionally on product updates and known issues.
Qualification: B.Tech, B.E., M.E. or M.Tech in IT or Computer Science or equivalent.
Location: Pune, Maharashtra.
Honest fit guidance: the phrase "development and sustenance" in the requirement is the key to this role. Sustenance engineering means maintaining and fixing shipped software, and some engineers find it the most satisfying work available because the problems are real and the feedback is immediate, while others find it frustrating because you rarely build greenfield. The customer contact is real but technical, and the release gatekeeper responsibility gives it more authority than a typical bug fixing seat. Know which of those two reactions is yours before applying.
