ClickHouse
About this role
ClickHouse builds the open source column store that a lot of the industry now uses for real time analytics and observability, and it also sells the managed cloud version of it. This seat is on the Core Performance team, which means the work is making the database itself faster: query optimisation, distributed query planning, joins and aggregations, caching, and hand tuned SIMD work. You also extend the performance test suite so speed does not quietly regress between releases, and you help Support debug the nastiest customer performance problems. Apply if you write serious C++ on Unix, understand database internals, and have done real performance engineering (a trading, simulation or stream processing background counts, it does not have to be a database). It is remote in India. Note the posting states no years figure at all.
Who this is for
Required by the posting: solid professional software development experience in C++ including Unix systems work, strong knowledge of database internals and design, experience in performance engineering (the posting explicitly accepts adjacent fields such as high frequency trading, simulation or real time data processing rather than requiring database work specifically), strong production debugging, and willingness to work openly with an open source community, which here means resolving GitHub issues, reviewing and finishing community pull requests, and answering questions on mailing lists, chats and external Slack channels.
Nice to have, listed as bonus points: prior ClickHouse experience, security, privacy and compliance exposure, TCP/IP and network programming, cloud infrastructure work with Kubernetes, public speaking at technical conferences, and previous open source contributions.
The real day to day: analysing and optimising the core database, extending performance tests against real world and synthetic datasets, assessing the performance impact of new features from other core teams, and acting as an escalation resource for Support Engineering.
Location and working pattern: the board lists this as India (remote), and the posting adds that the role can be located anywhere ClickHouse has a hiring presence. ClickHouse describes itself as a globally distributed, remote friendly company operating in over 20 countries, and offers a home office setup allowance to remote employees. ClickHouse posts this same role separately for the United States, United Kingdom, Germany and the Netherlands; the requisition linked here is the India one.
Honest fit guidance: this posting states NO years of experience anywhere, which is why our experience filter cannot place it. Do not read that as an open bar. The requirement set (C++ plus database internals plus performance engineering) is a senior profile in substance, and the compensation section is written for United States salary bands, so the level is set by what you can demonstrate rather than by a number. If you have shipped low level optimisation work you can point at, apply regardless of your years.
