Mumbai University admissions follow a predictable schedule each year. While exact dates are announced annually, the pattern is consistent:

Note: Professional courses (Engineering, Law, Management) have separate admission schedules through CET cells.

Documents Required

Keep these ready BEFORE the admission window opens:

  • Marksheets: 10th and 12th (original + 3 photocopies)
  • Leaving Certificate / Transfer Certificate from your previous institution
  • Migration Certificate (if from another university/board)
  • Domicile Certificate (Maharashtra domicile for state quota seats)
  • Caste Certificate (if applying under reserved category)
  • Caste Validity Certificate (for SC/ST/OBC — some colleges require this at admission)
  • Non-Creamy Layer Certificate (for OBC category, must be recent)
  • Income Certificate (for EBC/EWS category and fee concessions)
  • Aadhar Card
  • Passport-size photographs (8-10 copies)
  • Gap Certificate (if there is a gap between 12th and admission)

How to Apply (Step by Step)

  1. Check results: Verify your 12th/graduation results and calculate your percentage
  2. Research colleges: Use our college directory (822 colleges) to shortlist based on location, courses offered, and student reviews
  3. Register online: Create an account on the official MU admission portal when it opens
  4. Fill the form: Enter personal details, academic records, and college preferences (usually up to 10 choices)
  5. Upload documents: Scan and upload all required documents
  6. Pay the application fee: Typically Rs. 100-500 (varies by course and category)
  7. Check merit lists: Monitor the university website and your registered email for merit list announcements
  8. Confirm admission: If selected, visit the allotted college within the specified window with original documents
  9. Pay fees: Complete fee payment to confirm your seat

How Merit Lists Work

For merit-based courses (BCom, BA, BSc, BMS, etc.):

  • First merit list: Based on your percentage and college preferences. If your score meets the cutoff, you get admitted.
  • Second merit list: Published after the first round. Cutoffs usually drop slightly.
  • Third merit list: Final regular round. Cutoffs drop further.
  • Spot admission: Remaining seats filled on first-come-first-served basis at individual colleges.

If you are not satisfied with your allocated college, you can participate in the next round without losing your current seat (in most cases).

Fee Structure (Approximate)

CourseAnnual Fee RangeNotes
BCom / BA / BSc (aided)Rs. 5,000 - 15,000Government-aided colleges are cheapest
BCom / BA / BSc (unaided)Rs. 15,000 - 50,000Self-financed colleges charge more
BMS / BAF / BBI / BMMRs. 15,000 - 60,000Varies widely by college

Admission Tips

  1. Apply early: Do not wait for the last date. Server crashes are common on deadline day.
  2. Keep documents ready beforehand: The biggest delay is missing paperwork. Get caste/income certificates in April-May.
  3. Research cutoffs: Look at previous year cutoffs to set realistic college preferences.
  4. Have a backup plan: Apply to both aided and unaided colleges. Apply to IDOL (distance) as a safety net.
  5. Check your course syllabus: Use our syllabus library to verify the course content matches your expectations before committing.

IDOL (Distance Learning) Option

Mumbai University offers several courses through IDOL (Institute of Distance and Open Learning). If you cannot get a regular admission or want to study while working, IDOL is a valid option. Degrees are equivalent to regular degrees for most purposes. IDOL admissions typically open in August-September.
