Syllabus for Mobile Robotics
1. Knowledge of robotics fundamentals, including kinematics, dynamics, and control systems. 2. Understanding of programming languages like Python, C++, or MATLAB. 3. Familiarity with linear algebra, calculus, and probability theory.
Module 1
- Introduction to Mobile Robotics: Overview of Mobile Robotics: Definition, scope, and applications, Historical perspective and evolution of mobile robots, Types of mobile robots: Wheeled, tracked, legged, aerial, underwater, Challenges and constraints in mobile robotics: Power, mobility, sensing, control.
Module 2
- Kinematics & Dynamics of Mobile Robots: Kinematic modelling: Forward and inverse kinematics for mobile platforms, Differential drive and holonomic motion, Dynamics of mobile robots: Newton- Euler equations, motion control, stability analysis, Trajectory planning and obstacle avoidance algorithms.
Module 3
- Perception and Sensing for Mobile Robots: Sensor technologies for mobile robots: Cameras, LIDAR, ultrasonic sensors, IMUs, encoders, Sensor fusion techniques: Kalman filtering, Bayesian methods, Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) algorithms, Environmental modelling and mapping techniques.
Module 4
- Localization and Navigation : Localization methods: Odometry, landmark-based localization, Monte Carlo Localization (MCL), Path planning algorithms: Dijkstra’s algorithm, A*, RRT, potential fields, Reactive and deliberative navigation strategies, Collaborative and multi-robot coordination in navigation
Module 5
- Control Systems for Mobile Robots : Control architectures for mobile robots: Behaviour-based, hierarchical, and hybrid systems, Feedback control design for motion and trajectory tracking, PID control and its application in mobile robotics, Model Predictive Control (MPC) and its relevance in mobile robot control.
Module 6
- Advanced Topics in Mobile Robotics: Swarm robotics and collective behaviours in mobile robot teams, Human-robot interaction and social robotics, Autonomous systems and artificial intelligence in mobile robots, Ethical considerations and societal impact of mobile robotics.
