Module I: Media Mapping, Evaluation and Case Study Analysis
- 1 Media Mapping and Classification
- i Identify examples of children’s literature, TV programs, films, animation, and digital and social media.
- ii Prepare a comparative chart distinguishing children’s and youth media.
- iii Trace historical development through selected examples.
- 2 Field-Based Evaluation
- i Visit a children’s library / bookstore
- ii Watch and document one children’s or youth TV show/film.
- 3 Developing Evaluation Criteria
- i Develop criteria for evaluating Children’s books, children/youth TV shows and films Focus areas: Representation of gender, culture, diversity, Educational versus entertainment value, Age- appropriateness, Language and visual appeal, Developmental suitability
- 4 Case Study Presentation
- i Evaluation of one children’s book
- ii Evaluation of one TV show or film
Module II: Storytelling and Media Content Development
- 1 Story Selection and Storytelling Practice
- i Selecting a tellable tale
- ii Structuring sequence of events clearly
- iii Motivating and engaging the audience
- iv Providing opportunities for active participation
- v Voice modulation and clarity of speech
- vi Use of eye contact, gestures, facial expressions
- vii Ending the story effectively
- 2 Designing Media Content Students will plan and create one of the following (theme-based):
- i A children’s book (theme-based, with layout plan and illustrations)
- ii An educational toy (concept note + prototype/model)
- iii A youth TV show concept (target group, theme, format)
- Focus areas of planning: Target age group, Theme and objectives, Content
- outline, Layout and design, Text versus pictures balance, Cost consideration
- 3 Scriptwriting and Conceptualization
- i Educational objectives
- ii Basics of scripting for children’s book/youth TV show
- iii Structuring episodes
- iv Writing dialogues
- v Including interactive elements
- 4 Final Presentation and Demonstration
- i Present and demonstrate book/toy prototype OR
- ii Perform storytelling OR
- iii Present TV show concept and script and perform selected scenes.
