This is the Fourth Year Biomedical Rev 2019 C Scheme syllabus under REV-2019 'C' Scheme, in force from the academic year 2022-23. The University has not yet published an NEP 2020 syllabus above Semester IV for this branch, and this is the scheme its examinations are set on.

Syllabus for Bioinformatics (Abbreviated as BI

Semester 7 · Fourth Year Biomedical Rev 2019 C Scheme

Module 1

  • Introduction to bioinformatics and biological databases: Basic principles of genetics, cells, DNA and chromosome, genes and the genome, DNA sequencing, proteomics, discovery of gene sequence. Human genome project, biological databases and their classification, genome sequence databases, protein structure databases, composite databases.

Module 2: Statistical methods used in bioinformatics:

  • Basic statistical modelling and Bayesian inference, gene expression and microarray analysis, sequence alignment, sequence pattern discovery, combining sequence and expression information.

Module 3: Algorithms in bioinformatics:

  • Introduction, dynamic programming and sequence alignment, Needleman–Wunsch algorithm, Greedy algorithms for Genome rearrangement, string algorithm, breakpoint graph, approximation algorithm, FASTA and BLAST algorithms..

Module 4: Multivariate Methods in Bioinformatics:

  • Multivariate normal distribution, multivariate hypothesis tests, principle component analysis, orthogonal factor model, linear discriminant analysis, classification methods, Naïve Bayes classification.

Module 5: Applications and tools of bioinformatics:

  • Sequence alignment and dotplot, DNA sequence analysis, protein sequence analysis, database similarity search, phylogenic analysis and tree construction, gene, protein and tissue microarray.
