B.E. (Biomedical Engineering) Medical Imaging I Abbreviated As MI I Syllabus - Mumbai University

This is the Second Year Biomedical Rev 2019 C Scheme syllabus under REV-2019 'C' Scheme, in force from the academic year 2020-21. The University also publishes a NEP 2020 syllabus for Semesters III and IV, which is what the current second year is taught; this scheme is what ATKT candidates of the earlier batches still sit. Syllabus for Medical Imaging-I (Abbreviated as MI-I)

Semester 4 · Second Year Biomedical Rev 2019 C Scheme · 3 credits · 100 marks

Module 1

  • X- Ray Imaging: Properties of X-Rays, Production of X-Rays, X-Ray interaction with matter, Attenuation of X-Rays. Total Radiographic System: X Ray tubes, Rating of X-Ray tubes, X-Ray generators, Filters, Grids, Beam Restrictors, Control Panel and X-Ray Films.

Module 2

  • Radiography Techniques & Applications: Principle and working of Computed Radiography, Digital Radiography and Mammography with its clinical applications.

Module 3

  • Fluoroscopic Imaging: X-Ray Image Intensifier, Principle and Working of C-Arm, Digital Subtraction Angiography and its clinical applications.

Module 4

  • Principle of Computed Tomography: Scanner Configurations/Generations, CT System: Scanning unit(gantry), Detectors, CT Number, Data Acquisition System. Spiral CT: Technology and clinical applications, CT artifacts and Clinical applications of CT

Module 5: CT Reconstruction Techniques: Radon Transform, Iterative, Filtered Back Projection and Fourier reconstruction.

Module 6

  • Advancements in CT: Multi-Detector Computed Tomography (MDCT), Flat Panel Detectors, Contrast agents in CT, CT-Angiography & Cardiac CT.
