Syllabus for French Society of the XXIst century

Description of the course
This course examines major social, political, and cultural issues shaping 21st-century French society. Including but not limited to the European Union, changing family structures, immigration, and the evolution of work, the course offers a multidisciplinary approach to understanding contemporary France through media, texts, and discussion.
Course objectives
- 1. To introduce students to key institutions and debates defining modern French society.
- 2. To analyze contemporary issues such as immigration, labor reforms, and family dynamics in France.
- 3. To explore France’s role within the European Union and its global context.
- 4. To develop critical thinking and oral/written expression in French through engagement with current events and social commentary.
Course outcomes
- CO 1 To understand major current events in France.
- CO 2 To be updated on the current socio-political climate of France.
- CO 3 To equip students with a rich understanding of contemporary French society.
- CO 4 To study French society of the 21st century from a holistic perspective.
