B.F.A. (Painting) History of Art Syllabus - Mumbai University

This is the University of Mumbai syllabus for the B.F.A. (Painting), the Revised Course in force from the academic year 2004-2005. It is still the current scheme: MU has never revised it, the University's own Faculty of Fine Art register still lists this degree as Ordinance O.5310 under Circular No. UG/210 of 2004, and the syllabus below is what MU's Summer 2026 examinations were set on.

  • Gupta Dynasty-Temples Sculptures and Paintings.
  • Chalyukya Dynasty- Temples styles- Nagara, Vesara, Dravida
  • Medieval Period-Pala and Sena Art- Rock-cut Temples- Ellora, Ajanta, Plain Sculpture, Painting
  • Cholas and Panllavas- Khajurao, Konark, Helebid, Belur, Tanjore, Madura, Kanchipuram.

Indian Artist

  • (Period of Late 19th and early 20th century): L.N.Taskar, S.P.Agaskar, G.K.Mhatre, Guregaonkar.Rao Bhadhur Dhurandar, Y.K.Shukla, Chittaprasad, Karmarkar

Western Art

  • Early Renaissance- Giotto, Massacio, Piero Della Franscesca
  • High Renaissance- Leonardo Da Vinci, Michaelangelo, Raphael, Donatello
  • Later Painters- Titian, Durer, Jan Van Eyck
