Description of the course
This course explores key themes in 20th- century French literature through Simone de Beauvoir’s La femme rompue. Including but not limited to existentialism, gender roles, narrative form, and individual identity, the course examines how literature engages with philosophical and social questions in post-war France.
Course objectives
- 1. To analyze La femme rompue in the context of 20th-century French literature and thought.
- 2. To explore representations of womanhood, freedom, and existential crisis in Beauvoir’s work.
- 3. To understand the interplay between literature, philosophy, and feminist discourse in post-war France.
- 4. To develop skills in close reading, textual analysis, and critical discussion of narrative voice and structure.
