About this role
Postman is the API platform used by more than 45 million developers and 500,000 organisations, and it was founded in Bangalore, which is where this role sits. API Network is the product for discovering and using APIs across public, internal and partner workspaces, and it includes the largest public API network there is plus the private catalogue companies use as their internal source of truth. This is a full stack role: you would build product features, prototype quickly for internal and external use cases, own the architecture of collection systems and drive improvements to existing ones. The primary language is JavaScript and the posting says so plainly. Before applying, read the office policy below, because it changes during the year.
Who this is for
Asks for at least 6+ years of experience building applications in high level programming languages, especially JavaScript, and the posting notes Postman primarily codes in JavaScript. Also wanted: experience with cloud computing and distributed systems, having worked on customer facing systems at scale; solid knowledge of database fundamentals and data storage principles; and a fair understanding of frontend technologies, networking and analytics.
Day to day: contribute to the development of APIs and products alongside product managers, designers and engineers from support, quality, security and platform; rapidly build functional prototypes for internal and external use cases; provide technical leadership and mentorship to other engineers; contribute to roadmap planning with stakeholders; lead the architecting and design of collection systems; own the maturation of existing systems by defining initiatives that improve functionality, reliability and performance; and identify and champion architectural improvements.
Location and office reality, and this is the part to weigh: the role is in Bengaluru. Postman states it values in person collaboration and is in office five days a week for roles based at its hubs in San Francisco Bay Area, Boston, Austin, New York City, Tokyo and London. For Bangalore based roles, the posting says employees currently work in the office three days a week and will move to five days per week by the end of the year. If a five day office week does not work for you, this is a clear no rather than something to negotiate later.
No interview process is published.
Fit note: the mentorship and roadmap language sits alongside hands on prototyping and architecture ownership, with no people management duties listed.
