About this role
Okta builds the identity layer that connects people and services to the systems they are allowed to use. This role owns the engineering behind Okta's documentation sites, help.okta.com and developer.okta.com: the frontend, the infrastructure, the CI/CD pipelines and the publishing process. Your internal customers are the technical writers and the teams that contribute product content, and a stated part of the job is making sure they are never blocked. It is real software engineering with a modern stack, JavaScript and TypeScript, Python, OpenAPI, JAMstack and a documentation framework such as DITA, Redocly or VuePress. Be clear about what it is, though: this is developer and content tooling, not product engineering. At 4+ years it is one of the lower bars in today's edition.
Who this is for
Asks for at least 4+ years of development experience. Required skills as listed: JavaScript and TypeScript plus Python; OpenAPI and JAMstack architecture; a documentation framework such as DITA, Redocly, VuePress or similar; CI/CD tooling with GitHub, CircleCI, Vercel and Artifactory named; and hands on experience using generative AI tools for coding, workflow automation and tooling. Good verbal communication, comfort collaborating across teams, and Agile experience are also listed. A Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent work experience, is required.
Desired: experience working with technical writers and knowledge of the documentation process, and localisation experience.
Day to day: build, maintain and improve the documentation site infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines and release processes; support internal Builder Experience teams with structured authoring platforms and automation; keep technical writers unblocked; provide cross regional support to Builder Experience teams; and work with documentation tooling leads on user experience, content structure and versioning across multiple products and global audiences.
Location and office reality is stated precisely, which is unusual and useful: Bengaluru, Karnataka, with a hybrid work mode of a minimum of two days onsite per week. Okta also says onboarding starts with an in person experience.
No interview process is published.
Fit note: judge this on whether developer experience and documentation infrastructure interests you. The engineering is genuine and the tooling is current, but you are building the platform that publishes the docs rather than the product the docs describe, and that is a different career track.
