Zscaler
About this role
Zscaler runs a cloud security platform that sits in the network path for thousands of enterprises, so
its engineering problems are latency and throughput problems. This seat designs and optimises system
infrastructure and datapaths for high performance networking and low latency security applications.
You implement and tune core networking protocols including NAT, DNS, DHCP and policy enforcement, and
resolve hard system issues using deep Linux kernel, networking and filesystem knowledge. There is
also an explicit AI thread: using coding assistants and LLMs to optimise for performance and memory
safety and to automate testing. Software Defined Networking, AWS or Azure, and Docker or Kubernetes
are all in the stack. Apply if you are a systems engineer who is comfortable below the application
layer and enjoys making things measurably faster.

Who this is for
Requirements. 8+ years of systems engineering experience focused on designing and optimising
infrastructure for high performance, low latency applications. Hands-on experience with Software
Defined Networking (SDN), cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure, and containerisation tools such as
Docker or Kubernetes.
Responsibilities. Design and optimise system infrastructure and datapaths for high performance
networking and low latency security applications. Implement and optimise core networking protocols
including NAT, DNS, DHCP and policy enforcement for enterprise grade performance. Use AI coding
assistants and LLMs to optimise code for performance and memory safety and to streamline the
development lifecycle through automated testing. Resolve complex system issues using deep expertise
in the Linux kernel, networking features and filesystems. Write detailed technical specifications and
rigorous unit tests.
Location and terms. "This is a hybrid role based in Bangalore", reporting to the Director, Software
Engineering in the Software Engineering department. Employment type is listed as Fulltime Employee.
Tagged #LI-Hybrid.
A note on Zscaler titles. Zscaler runs several concurrent requisitions with near identical titles
across different teams, and has had five separate roles called "Staff Software Development Engineer"
open at once. The team and the stack are what distinguish them, not the title, so read the
responsibilities rather than assuming a level from the words Senior or Staff. This one is the
networking datapath seat.
Who this is for. A systems or networking engineer with eight or more years who wants kernel adjacent
performance work rather than application development. If your background is web services, the NAT,
DNS, DHCP and Linux kernel requirements are a genuine barrier here rather than nice to haves. If you
have done datapath or packet processing work, this is squarely aimed at you.
