Paytm
About this role
Paytm's infrastructure team runs one of the larger AWS workloads in India, and its own description of
scale is petabytes of data, millions of requests a minute, and a few thousand microservices on a few
hundred thousand cores. This seat is the data side of that: DevOps for big data infrastructure, with
Hadoop, Kafka, EMR, Ranger, Spark, Hive, Starburst, Looker, TigerGraph and Neo4j named as a strong
plus. Day to day is AWS infrastructure management, Kubernetes and container platforms, infrastructure
automation in Ansible and Terraform, and CI/CD through Jenkins and Helm. The team has built its own
CI platform, its own AWS cost management tooling, and EBS autoscaling that downscales without a
millisecond of outage. Apply if you want infrastructure problems that are genuinely large rather than
nominally large.

Who this is for
Requirements. 6 to 10 years of experience in DevOps engineering. Strong practical knowledge of
managing AWS infrastructure, specifically EC2, load balancers, CloudFront, ElastiCache, EBS, S3, IAM,
CloudWatch, Auto Scaling and Lambda. An understanding of open source server software such as Tomcat,
HBase, Kafka, MySQL, Redis and Elasticsearch. Strong experience in infrastructure automation with
Ansible, Terraform, CloudFormation or similar. Hands-on Kubernetes, EKS, Docker and ECS. Hands-on
automation in shell, Python or PowerShell. Strong experience with Jenkins, Maven or Gradle.
Experience with DevOps and CI/CD pipelines using Jira, Confluence, Jenkins, Git, Maven, Nexus and
Docker. Hands-on CI/CD automation for EC2, ASG, EKS and ECS using Helm and Jenkins.
Big plus. Hands-on experience with any of the big data stack: Hadoop, Kafka, EMR, Ranger, Spark,
Hive, Starburst, Looker, TigerGraph or Neo4j. This is what makes it a data DevOps seat rather than a
general one.
Scale, in the team's own words. Paytm describes itself as cloud first on AWS, working with petabytes
of data, millions of requests per minute and a few thousand microservices across a few hundred
thousand cores. It names three things it built in house: one of the world's largest CI platforms, its
own AWS cost management platform, and EBS autoscaling that downscales with no outage. Its
observability system processes tens of millions of events per second.
Location and terms. Noida, marked on-site, on the Lending team inside Technology, with an employment
type of On-roll (Paytm's term for a permanent employee rather than a contractor).
Who this is for. A DevOps or platform engineer with six or more years who wants the data
infrastructure side and real AWS scale. Despite the "Lead" in the title, nothing in the requirement
or responsibility list describes managing people; it reads as a senior individual contributor seat.
