About this role
SolarWinds makes IT monitoring and management software used by large enterprise operations teams. This role is on its Platform Connect team, which builds the shared foundation that lets SolarWinds products talk to each other and to outside systems. Concretely, you would own backend services behind feature entitlements, usage metering, integrations and platform APIs, and connect them to identity, billing and tenant management systems. The posting is written for someone who can take a scoped feature from technical design through implementation, testing, deployment and production support without being handed a specification. It is a clean, well defined backend job: REST APIs, distributed services, relational and NoSQL databases, and a language of your choosing from Java, Kotlin, Node.js, Python or Go.
Who this is for
What the posting asks for: a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field. 3 to 5 years of backend software development experience. A strong understanding of data structures, algorithms and core computer science fundamentals. Proficiency in one or more backend languages such as Java, Kotlin, Node.js, Python or Go. Experience designing and building REST APIs and backend services in a distributed or service oriented environment. Familiarity with relational or NoSQL databases. Experience with Git, code reviews, testing practices and standard development workflows. The ability to debug application and production issues. Good communication and the ability to work in cross functional teams.
Preferred: experience with microservices architecture and distributed systems, familiarity with backend frameworks such as Spring Boot, Express or NestJS, or Django, and working knowledge of platform concepts.
The actual day to day: designing, building and maintaining backend services behind entitlements, usage tracking, integrations and platform APIs. Owning small to medium features end to end, from design through production support. Developing scalable and secure APIs for internal and external consumers. Building service to service integrations across identity, billing, metering and tenant management. Breaking requirements into technical tasks and surfacing risks and tradeoffs. Debugging production issues and taking part in incident response. Contributing to code reviews, testing and documentation. Improving observability through logging, monitoring and tracing. Working with product managers, QA and peer engineering teams.
Location and office reality: Bangalore, India. The posting does not state office days or describe the role as remote.
Honest fit guidance: this is a straightforward mid level backend role with an unusually clear scope, which is a good sign. The language list is broad, so you are not locked out for using Node.js instead of Java. Billing, metering and entitlements work is less glamorous than product features but it is genuinely hard at scale and transfers well to any SaaS company.
