Preamble:
The discipline of Landscape Architecture has been practiced and taught in India from the early
1970’s. Cities like Delhi pioneered followed by Ahmedabad , Chennai, Pune and Bhopal and
now Vijayawada and Nagpur. In Mumbai, a unique three -year part -time Master of Architecture
in Landscape, a marks -based program was approved by the University of Mumbai’s Academic
Council in 2008. This program now needs to be updated as per current requirements and
converted to a choice based credit scheme in keeping with present day global and national
education and professional standards which are mandatory as per the University Grants
Commission [UGC]. The program is delivered in the Regular mode.
Landscape Architects, in their work, synthesise a range of i ssues, design aspirations and
inspirations to produce projects which engage individuals, communities and society with place
in practical, personal, cultural and political ways. The learning, tools and skill sets needed for
this have also expanded.
The curr iculum developed responds to these aspects and being learner centric, requires
appropriate implementation support like required infrastructure including lecture halls and
studios equipped for the use of ICT and Software Labs equipped in particular with Ear th
Analytical software like GIS, Grasshopper, and Rhino etc.

The Programme
M. Arch (Landscape) is a two years (four semesters) full time programme leading to Masters
Degree in Architecture, conducted as choice based and Credit system.
Objectives of the programme:
To prepare learners for the profession of Landscape Architecture in the prevailing market
scenario.
Orient the learner towards developing career skills
Expose the lear ner to latest trends and future roles in the profession.
To orient and prepare a learner towards seeking progressive solutions for humanity
Develop understanding of sustainable design
To prepare learners for serving life at large by applying their learning
Resolve the challenges of life and problem -solving using landscape design

Expected learning Outcome
The M. Arch (Landscape) graduates shall develop critical knowledge of the discipline of
landscape architecture. They shall develop the ability to apply l andscape architecture
knowledge and techniques to solve complex environmental and social problems and
challenges through landscape planning and design practice across multiple scales.

O.6609 Master of Architecture (Landscape)
M. Arch (Landscape) is a two years (four semesters) full time programme leading to Masters
Degree in Architecture, conducted as choice based and Credit system.
O.6610 Eligibility
Bachelor of Architecture (B. Arch ) degree of this u niversity with minimum 50% marks or passed
any other examination recognized as equivalent with 50% marks
In addition the candidate must fulfil the admission criteria specified by the competent
authorities for admission to M. Arch programm es.
The scheme of the syllabus
M. Arch (Landscape) is a two years (four semesters) full time programme leading to Masters
Degree in Architecture, conducted as choice based and Credit system. Each semester shall
have duration of one academic term. There will be an examination at end of every semester.
The c andidate for the degree of M. Arch (Landscape) programme will be required to pass all
four semester examinations.
Examinations:
Examinations for M. Arch (Landscape) Semester I, and Semester III, will be conducted by
colleges affiliated to university of Mumbai, as per the scheme of the examination as prescribed
in the syllabus.
Examinations for Semester II and Semester IV will be conducted by University of Mumbai as
per the scheme of the exam ination as prescribed in the syllabus.
COURSE CREDIT STRUCTURE
The courses for M. Arch (Landscape) programme are lecture based or studio based. Teaching
per week is for 24 hours = 24 periods of 60 minutes duration. The courses have assigned no. of
periods per week as described in the scheme of teaching.

The minimum credit required for award of a M. Ar ch (Landscape) degree is 96. The credits are
distributed in four semesters as shown in the structure and syllabus manual of each
programme. Courses generally progress in sequences, building competencies and their
positioning indicates certain academic matu rity on the part of the learners. Learners are
expected to follow the semester wise schedule of courses given in the syllabus manual of
respective programmes.

Attendance:

Attendance for all Theory, Studio , Seminar, and Project/Dissertation is compulso ry. As per the
University ordinance o.6086, 75% attendance is compulsory for keeping the term.

Modes of Assessment/Evaluation
In studio based courses continuous assessment should be carried out and appropriate
weightage should be given to each assignmen t/course project and proper record of the same
to be preserved by the concerned faculty for the purpose of inspection as and when required.
The weightage for Internal Assessment may be 100 percent for some courses.

Evaluation for lecture based Courses:
Various modes of assessment are used for rating learners’ performance in a lecture -based
course . The methods of evaluation include Internal Assessment , External Assessment and End
Semester Examination. Relative weight age for Internal Assessment is generally 50 per cent.
This will consist of class tests, seminars, presentation of reports or documentation, small
assignments, projects to be carried out individually or in a group. The weightage for Internal
Assessment may be 100 percent for some courses.
The end semester examination will be held as per the scheme of the examination and
university schedule and the relative weightage for this would be 50 per cent. This examination
will cover the full syllabus of the course for t he respective semester.
Evaluations may be Internal [Continuous] or Internal + External [Juries/Viva voce] or by End
semester written Examinations as prescribed by the course. Internal [Continuous Evaluation]
wherever applicable is by Course Faculty and fo llows guidelines prescribed in the Framework
of Evaluation and Detailed Syllabus. External Evaluation whenever prescribed in the syllabus
will follow guidelines prescribed in the Framework of E valuation and Detailed Syllabus.
Eligibility for end semester e xamination will be as per the regulations for respective semester.

Grades
The courses of M. Arch (Landscape) programs have
A) Only sessional marks (internal + external) or
B) Theory and internal sessional marks.
The grades are given on the basis of total marks obtained by adding internal and external
marks obtained by the learner.
In case of A, passing grade will be given for more than 50% marks
In case of B, passing grade will be given for more than 45% marks
The letter grades and their equivalent grades points with the courses with only sessional marks
