Preamble and Objectives

This course is one of the skill- based courses offered for MA – SEM IV. Translation is
an essential tool for understanding a different language. Exchange of literary, social or
cultural ideas takes place through the medium of translated books.
Translated literature forms an important part of Modern Sanskrit Literature.
Translations in both forms, i.e., Sanskrit into other languages and other languages into
Sanskrit have contributed to growth and development of Sanskrit literature. In fact,
this is one of the mediums to keep the language flowing.

Taking into consideration all these things, a student will be introduced to the
theoretical as well as practical aspect of translation studies related to Sanskrit
language. The course will enable to student to look at this language from a different
