Preamble and Objectives:


This course is one of the Skill -based Courses offered for MA Part II - Semester
IV. The Figures of Speech and Prosody constitute major part of the expression
of creative thought in poetry. T his also implies that t hey complete the
understanding and appreciation of the poetry . Course therefore encompasses
various aspect s of Alamkaras and Vrittas . It facilitates a holistic study of
literature , by enabling the understanding of poetic expression .

Course aims at empowering the student to apprehend, interpret, and analyse the
Sanskrit literature in light of prosody and figures of speech , to expedite a
complete understanding. It also aspires to empower them to use these
Alamkaras and Vrittas in their independent compositions , thereby making it
ornate .
