Preamble and Objectives -
This course is one of the electives offered for MA -II - SEM III. Secular Sanskrit
Literature is broadly divided into two main categories – Classical and Modern.
Right from pre -independence era, various compositions were written to keep the
Sanskrit literary tradition alive. A student of Sanskrit Language has to be aware
of the new and different trends being included in this tradition.

Keeping this in mind, a course on Modern Sanskrit Literature is designed which
throws light on various areas in which compositions are available. Novels,
Poetry, Plays, Periodicals, Travelogues are some of the forms that form the
scope of this syllabus.

The structure of the course enables the student to understand how language can
be a tool for reflection of various ideologies, culture and social conditions. At
the same time a unit on translated literature gives an idea about the techniques and types of translations making it applicative in nature and form.
