DIPLOMA IN GERMAN ( Level A2)
CREDITS: 6
The Diploma level of German as a Foreign language offered by the University of Mumbai is at par
with the A 2 level of Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and is
internationally recognized.
Level A2: The student :
Can understand sentence s and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate
relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography,
employment). Can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct
exchange of i nformation on familiar and routine matters. Can describe in simple terms aspects of
his/her background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.
The Diploma Course consists of two papers 0f 100 marks each and an oral exam of 50 marks .
Paper I: Writing Skills will be dealing with A 2 level. Its aim will be to strengthen the structural
knowledge of German, develop writing skills and to lead the students to higher level of written
expression in German language and comprehension of diffic ult texts.

Additional Material to be compiled by the teacher
Paper II: Reading & Listening Skills will enhance the reading and listening skills and topics like physical
features of German speaking countries, festivals, religions, social life, sports and leisure, education system.
Appropriate comprehension and structural exercises shall be given to facilitate the interpretation of
German texts. Culture specific problems of understanding literature shall be discussed. Two or more
literary/cultural texts may be include d.

EXAM (A2)
Pattern for Paper I and Paper II as per A 2 level
Patter for Orals: Speaking skills: 30 + viva 20 (at the end of the course) = 50 marks
External Candidates with equivalent prerequisite competence shall be permitted to appear for the
Diploma in German by paying an exam fees of Rs. 3000/ -, only if the final exam takes place.

The University Department of German may hold this exam or a part of it in collaboration with an
internationally recognized body and due exam fees may be collected by the department as per the
understanding with the i nternational organization so that the students may avail of an
internationally recognized certification in addition to the Diploma Certificate for benefit of the
students.
The marksheet/ grade -sheet must mention the Level A2 and 6 Credits.
This course shal l be offered online/ off line from the academic year 2021 -22.
